Sunday School

Sunday School takes place at the same time as the adults' service in Church. We meet in the Sunday School room (also known as the Front Hall) before the Service begins, and the Minister comes in to say prayers with us, before we go into Church. We usually sit in the front row.

After the second hymn we come back into the Sunday School room, have our own notices, prayers and collection, then we work in little groups, by age.

We use the Scripture Union’s SALT programme which gives different activities for each age group based on the same bible passage.

These are pictures taken in Sunday School at the beginning of 2009 -

These younger children enjoy doing simple craft projects, colouring, playing board games, all related to our weekly Bible reading. As these children are still at Infant School, their teacher, Voirrey, often has help from Kirsty, who was confirmed last year - but somehow got missed off the photos!

This next photo shows the Junior Group, minus Daniel who was at hockey, with Elizabeth, their teacher.

Their work is a little more complicated as they are all well able to read and write.

Secondary school age children, here with their teacher Gillian, look in more depth at Christianity, and what it means to be a Christian in today's world.

Sometimes we only have a few children in - for example at half term etc, and then sometimes we do something altogether.

This picture shows one of those days - when we retold the story of Jacob's Ladder using chocolate fingers and gingerbread men...

Currently there are about fourteen or fifteen children who are regularly at Church on Sundays, some in Sunday School, some in Créche, and others that we just see now and again. Everyone is vey welcome to join us – even if it just for a week or two whilst you are visiting the Island.

On Sunday January 11th 2009 we had a late Christmas Party - Voirrey and Gillian organised food, and Elizabeth worked hard to make sure there were games for everyone. Here are a few pictures, showing the pinata Elizabeth filled for us, and some of the children playing a wonderfully quiet game!

We try to do something for other children sometimes, as well as having lessons. All the children get involved with our annual Church effort to fill shoe-boxes with gifts for children and young people in the Chernobyl Region of Belorussia.

In 2008 the children raised funds for the Drop Inn Ministries project to build a medical clinic in Rwanda. Filling Smartie tubes with change, running a cake stall, and doing a car-wash raised a total of over £300 during the year!

This year, 2009, we are raising money for Water Aid.
